It’s in the Details: Optimizing your Home for Deliveries!
When planning your new home build, we all imagine the wonderful things about living in a new home.
Welcoming guests into your entryway…
Serving a meal from your gorgeous kitchen to your family at the dining table..
Curling up for movie night in your cozy living room…
But have you thought about that package that just got dropped off on your doorstep? You’re excited to rush home and open it, but you won’t be home for hours. Now you’re stressing over whether or not it’ll still be there when you get home!
Gone are the days when we’d just have milk delivered to the door. Now we have packages arriving at all times of day and with the world slowly returning to normal, we’re not home to receive them any more. If you’re updating your front entry or planning a new build, here’s our tips for making your home delivery friendly!
Make your House Number Visible: Day or Night!
This isn’t just a tip to help your food delivery make it to your front door for dinner time. If you have guests visiting your home or emergency services on the way, it’s a crucial feature to find your home. It’s also the law!
“It is important that emergency responders can find a specific home as quickly as possible and they rely on clearly posted addresses on the front and back of your home.” -City of Calgary
Our suggestion: a numbered sign in a contrasting colour with a solar activated light to make it visible day or night!
Strategically use columns and landscaping to hide packages from street view.
Columns, railings, and landscaping help make your home more attractive- and in most cases- are structurally necessary. However, they can serve another practical purpose: hiding packages from street view! Add a bench with storage to these little nooks that you can instruct people to leave deliveries inside, saving your packages from porch pirates!
We’d love to help you with an exterior design project! Get in touch with us to start planning your dream home. In the meantime, use a large pot or chair to provide a hiding place for your deliveries!
Create Clear Pathways
Make it easy for people to find your doorway and limit opportunities for people to run through your garden or lawn by keeping clear, common sense pathways that lead to your entrance.
Make sure to keep these pathways clear during the winter by shoveling after snowfalls! We can provide recommendations for surfaces that are easy to shovel and won’t turn icy as easily. Bonus points to this North Glenmore build for having lighting along the walkway. No need to worry about tripping up the steps!
